How patient are you really?

Hello friends, Mitzi here. I thought I would share my “God moment” for the day. As I was out for my morning run, I prayed like I always do. Lately, I have been more intentional about listening rather than doing all of the talking. It’s amazing how by just being quiet and settling your heart, you can hear God’s strong voice. Lately, I have been praying about a lot of goals I want to accomplish. I have been praying for them like I wanted them accomplished YESTERDAY! God knew that and He let me know that today when He spoke. As clearly as ever His words to me were, “Be patient. You are waiting on the Lord.” Those were definitely words I needed to hear. Everything is in God’s time–not my time. This leads me to a verse from Psalm 27: 14, Wait for the LORD; be strong and take heart and wait for the LORD. Yes, I will wait for the Lord. Things that need to happen WILL happen…in God’s time.

God’s Love Is All We Need

I was out for a hot run today in the 88° sun. It seemed like a good idea to get some exercise at the time! On my runs, I often meditate and pray. This time alone with God is as invigorating as the run itself and I cherish it. I have shared with others on occasion the times that God speaks to me on these runs. I wish that every time I prayed, I would remember to be quiet and listen to that still, small voice to see what wisdom He has for me; sometimes I forget. Today I did remember to stop and ask God, “What would you tell me today?” Do you know, I didn’t even get the question completed before He spoke to me as clearly as one can imagine. He said to me, “I love you and I care for you. That is all you need from Me today.” Hmm, I love you and I care for you…
This was about halfway through my run. I was getting heated, but my Father’s words kept me going. They lifted my heart. They made me smile and I felt peace. Most folks don’t smile when they run except when they go through the finish line of a 5K, 10K, half or full marathon! It’s probably good that I didn’t meet anyone else running or they would have thought I was nuts smiling and jogging soaked with sweat in sweltering heat.
I share this on the blog today because it is my hope that we all can rest in the knowledge that God’s love is all we need despite what we may think. He will take care of us—He knows our needs before we even ask. Remember, too, His love is shown in various ways. His Grace is sufficient. God’s blessings to you all today.

Fresh Start for 2015

2015 will soon be upon us. Many of us think of the New Year as a time for a new beginning—a fresh start, if you will. There are many passages in the Bible that talk about new beginnings. One that struck me is in the book of Job 11: 13-20:

If you prepare your heart,
    you will stretch out your hands toward Him.
If iniquity is in your hand, put it far away,
    and let not injustice dwell in your tents.
Surely then you will lift up your face without blemish;
    you will be secure and will not fear.
You will forget your misery;
    you will remember it as waters that have passed away.
And your life will be brighter than the noonday;
    its darkness will be like the morning.
And you will feel secure, because there is hope;
    you will look around and take your rest in security.
You will lie down, and none will make you afraid;
    many will court your favor.
But the eyes of the wicked will fail;
    all way of escape will be lost to them,
    and their hope is to breathe their last.

Pay attention to the verbs here. Prepare your heart, put [iniquity] far away, don’t let injustice dwell…

How will YOU prepare your heart for 2015? What are your plans for putting iniquity far away? Are you ready to let injustice fail to dwell in your “tent?” These will involve living RADICALLY for God—no small feat in this world today. Let’s learn from each other. Please comment—how can we live more RADICALLY for God, not just in 2015, but always?

Circle of Friends

Merry Christmas!

It is a busy time of year! We rush to finish shopping, wrapping, cooking, cleaning and all the other chores that call us.  We invite you to stop for a moment in the midst of the rush and reflect on why we celebrate.  It is not about the decorations or the gifts or the food.  It is not the songs or the children’s pageant.
A child is born, and the world changes forever.  God is with us!
May God’s peace surround you in this Christmas season.
Merry Christmas and blessings for 2014!

The Power of Prayer

This past Sunday, August 11, 2013, Circle of Friends had the BLESSING of participating in worship at Union United Methodist Church in the city of St. Louis. Pastor Dianne Cochran’s sermon on this particular day was centered on prayer. Prayer…that wonderful, delicious conversation we have with God! She provided different ways for the congregation to get back into the prayer habit (just in case some had done so!) with two simple reminders, both coming from the book of Luke:

1.  Luke 11:5-13      Think about ACTS. A is for Adoration and giving praise to God. C is to confess our sins before Him. T stands for Thanks. Thank God for His many blessings, and finally S, or Supplication–praying for those concerns we have on our hearts.  End the prayer, “In the name of Jesus, Amen. How simple is that?

2.  Luke 18: 1-8     Follow the P.U.S.H. prayer pattern. Pray (including praise, penitence, and petition) Until Something Happens. In the name of Jesus, Amen. Again, quite simple, really.

One of the most powerful parts of her sermon had to do with not only talking with God, but “being” with God in a state of prayer. She suggested that one sit relaxed in a chair, hands on the lap, palms up. Relax. As you inhale, say, “Lord Jesus Christ,” and then as you exhale, say, “Have mercy on me.” She actually had us do this during the service three times. I cannot tell you what a peace that caused.

Prayers do not have to be fancy. Prayers do not have to be eloquent. This sermon was a great reminder of the power that our conversations with God can have for us and those in our lives.  One of the songs that Circle of Friends chose to sing at this service was “A Living Prayer.” In this song, it talks about taking our own lives and letting them be a living prayer for Christ. How is your life a living prayer for Christ?

Habitat for Humanity

Circle of Friends is happy to have become friends with Habitat for Humanity, St. Charles.  On June 15, we will be playing at their block party in St. Peters, MO.  This link will take you to a flyer giving more information about that event.  Friend_Raiser_2013

Habitat does great work in partnering with families to provide affordable, safe housing.  Check out all they do and come join us at the party!

Our Circle….

During the almost 20 years we’ve been together, Circle of Friends has been blessed with the chance to meet and sing for so many wonderful congregations!  Many of them have been very small in size, but mighty in spirit and faith.  In this past year, we’ve had the pleasure of being in worship or fellowship with people in Chaffee, St. Charles, Ballwin, Shell Knob, Springfield, Warrenton, Morrison, Millersville, Vandalia, and Big Spring.  We look forward to playing in St. Peters, Pacific and south St. Louis this summer.  Wherever we’ve gone, we’ve been welcomed with such warmth.  We thank God for all of you and your hospitality.  We may come as strangers, but we always leave as friends!

Holy Week

Circle of Friends hope that you all are having a blessed Holy Week.
